Transition to Medical College: Dynamics of Depression, Internet Addiction and Nutritional Status among Junior Medical Students

Background: The initial years of a medical student’s life can be challenging. Coping mechanisms with internet technology have adverse health effects. This study assessed the depression, addiction and nutritional status among junior students.
 Materials methods: cross-sectional was conducted first third semester students new central institute in South India. Depression were by Patient Health Questionnaire-9 Young’s Internet Addiction Test, respectively. Mann Whitney U test, Pearson’s Chi-squared/Fishers Exact tests Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) applied.
 Results: A total 97 studied. comprised 60 male 37 female students. Mean(SD) age 19.3 (1.87) years. Most (68%) from rural backgrounds. higher (p=0.017), whereas (p=0.002). Prevalence underweight, overweight obesity 7.2%, 18.6% 35%, Correlates previous hostel stay (p=0.047), (p=0.043) social media use (p<0.000). SEM explained relationship semester, depression duration smart phone usage addiction.
 Conclusion: students, Nutritional problems prevalent across semesters.
